A Place to Call a Spiritual Home

Do you wish you could find a place where "everybody knows your name"? A place that offers the encouragement of friendship and the support of prayer? A place to grow in your relationship with God?

A Campus Group is the place for you! They provide opportunities for friendship, fun, genuine caring and learning how to apply God's word to your life. Most on-campus groups meet on Sundays, although we do have some midweek.

Jesus told the disciples to love one another. Paul instructed the Romans to be devoted to one another, honor one another, be united with one another, accept one another, admonish one another, and greet one another.

Paul told the Galatians to serve one another and bear burdens for another. The Ephesians were instructed to forgive and submit to one another. As Christians, we are to pray for one another, encourage one another, and confess sins to one another.

Whew! That's pretty intense. But very inviting, too!

nextstepAbout once a month after each service, you can get a 15-minute introduction to these groups called The NextStep. You will learn the what-when-where-how. Contact Stephanie Huffman for more information about NextStep.

FAQs About Visiting

Why should I go to an ABF or HABF?

There are lots of great reasons. A few are: to find friends in a huge church, to interact with people who are different than you, and to be a part of a more intimate community where people can share lives and grow together.

What should I wear?

For an ABF, wear whatever you would normally wear to a church service. So for a 9:00am ABF, wear clothes that you would wear to the 10:40am service and vice versa. HABFs, on the other hand, are much more informal.

What's going to happen?

Most ABFs and HABFs follow a similar format: social time, opening announcements and prayer, Bible lesson.

Do I need to be a Bible expert?

Absolutely not! Even if you've never opened a Bible, we still think an ABF or HABF is the right place for you!

How long should I attend services before I try an ABF or HABF?

One week. Seriously. The sooner you get into a smaller group, the better.

If I visit an ABF or HABF, does that mean I have to join?

Not at all. In fact, we encourage you to try multiple ABFs or HABFs! Many times it takes four or five tries before people find a group that fits with their personality.

Can I just show up?

Whatever is more comfortable for you. Some people prefer to contact the group leader first and others just want to show up!

Am I only allowed to try ABFs or HABFs that fit my affinity group (such as mid-marrieds or young singles)?

No. Feel free to try any ABF or HABF you think you might like. Usually people end up in groups that match their life stage, but there are plenty of people who break the mold! Go wherever you feel most comfortable.

Okay, I’m in. Who should I contact?

Contact Stephanie Huffman, 330.315.5910.

Creation to Christ—Assisted Learning Room
A Disability Ministry class, we teach people with cognitive impairments that everyone is created in God’s image and will, helping them grow in relationship to God and participate in the church’s life and service. Helping Through the Roof is our ministry.

Day Star—Room 207
We are a group of mostly empty-nesters (although all are welcome) who are very social and exist to promote the Gospel, the Body of Jesus Christ, and grow spiritually through God’s Word and prayer. We offer support to adopted missionaries.

Growing Together—Room 123
Primarily empty nesters, we are comfortable in adventure and serious students of God’s Word. We’re active in ministry, and passionate about prayer. Our teaching method is both discussion-oriented and lecture and we are involved in missionary adoption and local ministries. We welcome you to join us!

Joyful Noise—Room 211
We’re a socially eclectic ABF that was started to accommodate Chapel worship team members and their families, as well as visitors. We utilize Bible-focused teaching, encouraging group participation. We’ve adopted missionaries and serve locally too. We welcome you to join us!

Ladies ABF—Room 210
Our ABF is made up of ladies of all ages: single, divorced, married, and widows who are at all points in their Christian walk. We incorporate discussion based study, take time to pray, and are quick to support anyone going through difficulty. We support missionaries and serve locally.

Mosaic—Room 124
Our ABF is made up of Young Families who are caring, friendly, growing, and willing to serve! We support missionaries and several local ministries.

Partners in Living—Room 206
Ages between 50s and 70s, our group is lead by two teachers in a mixture of exposition and lively discussion. We have care groups, pray for one another, and include a morning breakfast determined by a rotation basis. We have adopted missionaries and Urban Vision is our local ministry.

Prime Time II—Conference Room
We are couples and singles aged 60s to 80s. This class is lecture-oriented and led by our main teacher as well as lay and guest teachers. Both hours are basically the same. We have care groups to look after one another and include social events that give us a chance to get to know one another better. We serve in many local ministries.

Real Life—Room 205
For all singles in their 30’s our interactive and supportive group teaches with a mixture of discussion and topical studies. We have teaching every Sunday and also meet on Wednesday nights in Akron. We serve by supporting missionaries as well as local ministry.

Synergy—Room 201
Synergy is a group of college-age students who desire to explore God and implement his dreams into our lives. We’re off the first Sunday of every month to serve somewhere in the church. A mix of teaching and discussion will challenge both your heart and mind. Come check us out!

Marrieds—Room 222
Mostly in our 20s and early 30s we are generally in our first five years of marriage. We meet every Sunday in facilitated discussion format to address issues related to marriage and growing in relationship with Jesus.

2nd & 4th Wednesdays, September-May

Young Families—Room 201
Our group is composed of young families and includes discussion-based teaching. We meet on Wednesday nights at the Green Campus and usually take the summer months off, meeting September through May, and volunteer at First Glance.

FAQs About Leading

For how long am I committing to this?

One year. Don’t feel badly if you try it and find out it’s not for you!

Do I need to be a Chapel member?

Yes.

Do I need to be a part of a Chapel ABF or HABF before I lead one?

Ideally yes, but there are always exceptions!

What skills does a leader need to have?

You only need to be able to do two things: love people and help people live out God’s Word.

How much formal training do I need to have?

None! We’ll provide all the training you need! We’re not looking for people with extensive training, but people who are growing in their faith.

How much support can I expect from The Chapel’s community department?

As much as you need. On a regular basis, we provide Teacher Training, small leader groups that meet around the breakfast table, and one-on-one meetings with pastors. You can use as many or few of these resources as you find helpful.

Okay, I’m in. Who should I contact?
